Minecraft Villagers: Your In-Game Workforce

Minecraft villagers are more than just passive mobs—they’re your ticket to efficient survival and progression. With 15 different job roles, they offer trades for food, weapons, tools, enchanting materials, and more. Whether you’re building a thriving village on a multiplayer server or just want a reliable source of emeralds, knowing how to manage and utilize villagers is key.

Let’s break down all Minecraft villager jobs, their trades, and how to assign professions to unemployed villagers.

What Are Villager Jobs in Minecraft?

Villager jobs, also known as professions, determine what trades a villager offers. Each profession has unique trades, tied to a specific job site block. For example: • A Librarian uses a Lectern and trades enchanted books.
• A Fletcher uses a Fletching Table and trades bows and arrows.

Villager professions are critical for: • Accessing rare or hard-to-craft items.
• Building efficient farms (like stick farms for trading with Fletchers).
• Gaining enchanted tools and armor without mining resources.

How Do Villagers Get Jobs?

Villagers get jobs based on job site blocks placed in their proximity. For example: • Placing a Blast Furnace nearby will turn an unemployed villager into an Armorer.
• Breaking a villager’s job site block removes their profession, turning them into an unemployed villager.

Key things to note: • Unemployed villagers can take on any job when assigned a block.
• Nitwits cannot take jobs. You’ll recognize them by their green robes.
• Once a villager’s trades are locked (after trading with them once), their profession cannot be changed.
