Mehdi Maïzi

Mehdi Maïzi is a leading French hip‑hop journalist and media host, known for his sharp analysis and his ability to bridge generations within the rap landscape. Raised in the Oise region, he excelled academically and went on to graduate from SKEMA Business School in 2010. Alongside his studies, he cultivated a deep passion for rap — not only as a musical genre but as a cultural, social, and narrative force.

In 2008, he joined the influential rap platform L’Abcdr du Son as a volunteer writer, quickly becoming one of the most respected critical voices in French hip‑hop. His analytical tone, encyclopedic memory, and ability to contextualize artists and movements led him to new media formats: he appeared as a commentator on Monte le Son ! (France 4), hosted the podcast NoFun, and became a central figure at OKLM Radio with his show La Sauce. During this period, he published his first book, Rap français : une exploration en 100 albums, now considered a reference in the field.

In 2017, he joined Deezer, where he curated rap playlists and launched the interview series Speakeasy, before being recruited by Apple Music in 2020 as Head of Hip‑Hop. There, he created Le Code, a flagship interview format that has become essential viewing for French rap audiences. At the same time, he continued hosting Rap Jeu on YouTube, helping turn it into a cultural phenomenon. Today, Mehdi Maïzi stands as a key mediator of French rap — a journalist who connects generations, scenes, and sensibilities while documenting the evolution of a genre he has followed for nearly two decades.
