Laura Juliet Kuenssberg is a prominent British journalist, best known for her role as the BBC’s first female Political Editor, a position she held from 2015 to 2022. Born on 8 August 1976 in Rome, Italy, she was raised in Glasgow and educated at the University of Edinburgh, where she earned a first-class degree in history. She also studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she interned at NBC.

Kuenssberg began her career at BBC North East and Cumbria, quickly rising through the ranks to become the BBC’s Chief Political Correspondent. She later joined ITV News as its first Business Editor before returning to the BBC as Chief Correspondent for Newsnight. In 2022, she stepped down as Political Editor and became the host of the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning politics show, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.

Known for her sharp political insight and fearless reporting, she has covered major events including Brexit, general elections, and leadership crises. Her family background is equally distinguished—her grandfather was a co-founder of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and her sister Joanna is a former diplomat.
