The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), established in 1989 and headquartered in Barcelona, is a leading think tank dedicated to fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding across the Mediterranean region. It operates as a consortium involving the Government of Catalonia, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Barcelona City Council, while also engaging civil society through its Board of Trustees and Advisory Council. IEMed plays a pivotal role in promoting the values of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and the Union for the Mediterranean.

IEMedโ€™s mission centers on building a shared space of peace, stability, and prosperity by encouraging cultural exchange, policy dialogue, and collaborative research. It supports multidisciplinary approaches to address regional challenges such as migration, climate change, gender equality, and economic development. Through its publications, conferences, and educational programs, IEMed provides a platform for scholars, policymakers, and civil society actors to engage in constructive debate and generate innovative solutions.

Beyond its analytical work, IEMed is deeply committed to public diplomacy and cultural engagement. It organizes exhibitions, film screenings, and artistic collaborations that highlight the diverse identities and shared heritage of Mediterranean societies. By bridging academic insight with cultural expression, IEMed cultivates a richer understanding of the regionโ€™s complexities and promotes inclusive narratives that transcend borders.
