The College is composed of Commissioners from 27 EU countries.

Together, these 27 members of the College are appointed as the Commission's political leadership for a 5-year term. The President of the Commission assigns responsibilities for specific policy areas to each Commissioner.

The President

Ursula von der Leyen
Ursula von der Leyen is the President of the European Commission.

She has held this position since December 1, 2019, and was re-elected for a second mandate in July 2024. She is the first woman to hold this office.

Her leadership focuses on addressing major challenges such as security, climate change, and competitiveness through joint action1. Before her current role, she served in various positions in the German federal government, including Minister of Defence23.

Kos has a diverse background as a diplomat and politician. Before her current role, she served as Slovenia's ambassador to Germany and Switzerland. She also held various positions in the Slovenian government and was involved in the Freedom Movement party.

Jozef SĂ­kela
Jozef SĂ­kela is the European Commissioner for International Partnerships.
