AlloCiné is a French online cinema information service founded by Jean‑David Blanc in 1988 and later joined by Patrick Holzman. Originally launched as a telephone hotline for movie showtimes, it quickly became popular thanks to its easy‑to‑remember number and the instantly recognizable voice of Patrice Baudrier, which became a small cultural icon in France. Over time, the platform evolved from a simple call service into a comprehensive digital hub for film lovers.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, AlloCiné expanded aggressively, launching its website in 1997, adding ticket reservations, and later creating AlloCiné Télévision, a channel dedicated to cinema news and interviews. The site also broadened its scope to include television series starting in 2005, building one of the most extensive French‑language databases of films and shows available online. Its editorial model combines news, trailers, interviews, and aggregated critic scores, making it the French equivalent of IMDb.

After several ownership changes — Canal+, Vivendi Universal, Tiger Global — AlloCiné was acquired in 2013 by Fimalac and integrated into the Webedia group. Today, it remains a central reference point for French audiences seeking showtimes, reviews, and entertainment news, while also serving as a key partner for industry initiatives such as the CNC’s VOD search engine launch in 2015. Its longevity and adaptability have cemented it as a pillar of French film culture.
